Welcome to Monroe, New York

Distance to NYC: 59 miles

Monroe is one of the most beautiful places in the Hudson Valley to call home, presenting a picturesque living atmosphere featuring majestic mountains, rivers, lakes and parkland.

Located approximately 50 miles from New York City, Monroe residents can enjoy the spoils of nature while leading an active professional life in the big city. This reasonable distance can be covered by train, car or bus.

The world famous Woodbury Common Premium Outlet Center is minutes away, located off Exit 16 of the New York State Thruway. Shoppers from throughout the Hudson Valley and beyond shop the approximate 220 upscale stores including Sachs, Liz Claiborne, Tommy Hilfiger and Bass.

Quality education is a major community priority and the academic achievements of the district’s students are recognized throughout New York State. The Monroe-Woodbury Central School District includes the towns of Monroe, Harriman, most of Woodbury and parts of Tuxedo, Chester and Blooming Grove. In addition to the academic offerings, students have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of sports on the interscholastic and intramural levels.

In an effort to continue the total development of all students, there are many co-curricular activities for students of all ability levels. As of January 2005, approximately 7,306 pupils have been enrolled in the seven instructional buildings in our district.

Monroe offers the great charm of a rural countryside with the accessibility of New York City business life.
