Stony Point has historic roots that date back to Revolutionary War era. The touchstone event in Stony Point’s history took place on July 16, 1779, the night of the legendary Battle of Stony Point. In what became known as one of the turning points in the war for independence, the Continental Army defeated the British thereby gaining control of an important strategic part of the Hudson River. The victory assured the open passage of the river and the adjacent Kings Ferry.

The town is highly accessible, with easy to New York City through bus or car. The Palisades Interstate Parkway is immediately accessible, providing a quick connection to the New York State Thruway and the Tappan Zee Bridge. The nearby Haverstraw Ferry provides another option for transportation.

Stony Point provides its citizens a wide array of activities to pass free time. Shopping options are everywhere, including the Patriot Square and Liberty Square shopping centers. The Palisades Center mall is less than 10 minutes away. Tourist landmarks in the area include the Stony Point Battlefield and the Stony Point Lighthouse. Stony Point counts as its most famous citizen James A. Farley, State and National Democratic Party Chairman, Advisor to the President Franklin D Roosevelt and Postmaster General of the United States during the Roosevelt era.
